Show photographs of before and after the procedure to dramatically illustrate your technique.  For example: You could explain a new cosmetic surgery technique in the newspaper. It would be expensive and the paper generally would be discarded as soon as it was read.   If a potential patient had a questions about the procedure they would have to remember to call your office during business hours.  The same ad on the Internet could include color photographs, in addition to your text, and would be available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year! On the "Frequently Asked Questions" page patients can have many of their questions answered immediately! If however, their specific question was not answered they have the option to e-mail you with their question while their interest is the highest.

If you are marketing a pain control device for patients home use you could market through your existing data base, your referral network, or an ad in the local TV, radio, or newspaper.
